The delicious virgin island where the sun shines all year round, that of the lonely plains, that of the immense white dune beaches, is the longest coastline in the entire archipelago. Hence, it is not surprising that this paradise island was chosen by the ancient canaries to create its first urban nucleus, which is why it comes from the name of the old Canary country.
Fuerteventura, only separated from Africa by a narrow corridor, constitutes a paradise for swimming and water sports. At its northern and southern extremes, along 340 kilometers of coastline, we find beaches that compete with the best in the world. Even near its capital, Puerto Rosario, there are beautiful beaches.
Its shallow and crystalline waters are ideal for bathing and sailing, water skiing, surfing or fishing. In fact, in windsurfing, Fuerteventura is on the World Cup circuit. Ideal beaches for practicing this sport are, among many others, Cofete, Jandía, Caleta de Fuste and Corralejo.
On its eastern coast we find beautiful cliffs and coves ideal for diving, thanks to the cracks, caves, tunnels, cornices and rock formations on its ocean floor.
The Beaches of Fuerteventura

Located in a virgin area that constitutes one of the most important quarries of Fuerteventura’s natural wealth, where almost all of its beaches are nudist, they offer a paradise to relax without the tourist crowds of other areas of the archipelago
Its almost untouched nature, where even the roads do not reach, (since it stretches for 6 km from Jandía to Pájara and only up to these two points do they reach it), make it a hidden paradise for divers and nudists.
Its beautiful solitary white sand beaches and crystal clear waters are in direct competition with the best in the world. Its rich underwater beds, of exceptional beauty, can be seen curiously a few meters from the shore. This has made it a favorite place for naturalists, divers and scuba divers in any season of the year.
As the island is separated from Africa only by a narrow corridor, each year immense quantities of swordfish, sardines and tunas pass through its waters, making it a favorite area for archipelago fishermen and spearfishing enthusiasts.
Corralejo Beach, crystal clear blue waters
Corralejo is a picturesque fishing village in the extreme north of the island. Its beach of extensive esplanades of fine sand and extraordinarily crystalline waters have made it, together with Jandía, one of the best in the archipelago. Its lucky climate throughout the year and the placidity of its blue waters offer the best possibilities to rest throughout the year.
The town is well worth a visit, especially if it is to go on a boat to make one of the excursions that leave daily to the beautiful Isla de Lobos.
Isla de Lobos, the virgin paradise
This small virgin and uninhabited islet, as no little more than some fishermen who live there, is a surprising experience on such touristy islands as the Canary Islands. A few kilometers from the most modern hotel complexes, we find here absolute calm and solitude, since in this beautiful place you will only find a small place to quench your thirst or appetite.
Puerto Rosario: the charming little capital
This small urban nucleus of just over 15,000 inhabitants is the capital of the island. A picturesque and attractive place where you can appreciate the curious and beautiful Canarian architecture, so characteristic for its colonial and exotic appearance.
The best exponent of this architectural style is found in La Oliva, 23 km from Puerto Rosario, in the Casa de los Coroneles, a beautiful mansion from the s. XVIII.
Near the capital we also find wide beaches with fine sand and deep turquoise waters.
Betancuria: from the Canarian origins
Betancuria is located in the center of the island. It takes its name from the French conqueror Bethencourt. It is the first population that is known to exist in the Canary Islands, therefore its great interest. According to historians it is because it was an area rich in water and vegetation, which made it more attractive to the first inhabitants of the islands, the Guanches. In the archaeological museum you can see interesting vestiges of this ancient civilization.
Visiting the Cathedral, built as a church in 1410 and erected as a cathedral 14 years later, is also of great artistic interest. It has beautiful Mudejar coffered ceilings and choirs in tea wood painted in oil. This is the wood of the old Canary pine, typically used in the architecture of the islands.
