Estoril in Portugal

Estoril is a town in the Municipality of Cascais, Portugal, on the Portuguese Riviera. Estoril is famed as a luxury entertainment destination on the Portuguese Riviera, as home of the Casino Estoril. Estoril is one of the most expensive places to live in Portugal and the Iberian Peninsula. It is home to a sizable foreign expat community and known for its luxury restaurants, hotels, and entertainment. Cascais is consistently ranked for its high quality of living, making it one of the most livable places in Portugal.

Estoril is a major international tourist destination in Portugal, known for its luxury hotels, beaches, and the Casino Estoril with its nightly shows, fabulous restaurants and of course slot machines. Famed for having been home of numerous royal families and famous personalities.
Estoril is also known for the numerous notable events it hosts, such as the Estoril Open, tennis tournament within the ATP World Tour and the Lisbon & Estoril Film Festival.

In the hilltop enclave of Monte Estoril (situated between Estoril and Cascais), is the Verdades-Faria Museum, built in 1917 by Jorge O’Neil. In 1942, the building was bought by Mantero Belard and dedicated to the support of the arts and artists. Following his death, the building was donated to Cascais Council under the name of Verdades Faria and now houses the regional Museum of Portuguese Music. It has an important collection of musical instruments.
Christine McVie, from the band Fleetwood Mac, wrote a song called “Nights in Estoril” for their album Time.

The Circuito do Estoril or Autódromo do Estoril (Estoril Circuit), officially known as Autódromo Fernanda Pires da Silva, is a motorsport race track on the Portuguese Riviera, outside of Lisbon, owned by state-run holding management company Parpública. It was the home of the Formula One Portuguese Grand Prix from 1984 to 1996. The capacity of the motorsport stadium is 45,000. The circuit has FIA Grade 1 license.
Estoril became a popular event on the F1 calendar, the setting for many well-known moments including Niki Lauda winning the 1984 championship.
On September 3, 2000, the Autódromo do Estoril held its first Portuguese motorcycle Grand Prix, an event held annually. On October 23, 2005, the circuit hosted the third round of the first ever A1 Grand Prix racing season, with both races in the event being won by the French team.
The track hosted Superleague Formula series events in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
The circuit currently hosts international motorcycling events (MotoGP), among other lower formula events.

The Estoril coast is relatively close to Lisbon, the Portuguese capital.
