Mallorca, “Cuevas del Drac”

Mallorca, the biggest of the 4 Balearic Islands. Like the other Balearic Islands, it is an extremely popular holiday destination, particularly for European tourists.

These are four caves called Cueva Negra (Cova Negra), Cueva Blanca (Cova Blanca), Cave of Luis Salvador (Cova de Lluis Salvador) and Cave of the French (Cova dels francesos), which are connected to each other.

They have been formed by the action of rainwater, and some scientists consider their formation could go back to the Miocene. They extend to a depth of 25 m, reaching 2.4 km in length.

They house a large underground lake, called Lago Martel (Llac Martel), about 115 m long and 30 m wide. In this lake, considered one of the largest underground lakes in the world, live classical music concerts are offered daily. You can cross the lake by boat at the end of the concert.

The Drac Caves remain open to the public throughout the year. In Porto Cristo there are two caves, the Hams and the Drac Caves.
