La Gomera is also called the magical island, due to its breathtaking and unspoilt nature, creating a stunning scenery that is hard to describe in words. Nature lovers and especially hikers come to the island to enjoy and admire its beauty and explore its peaceful nature. Wild mountain ranges, massive canyons, small black-sanded beaches, as well as underwater sights perfect for scuba diving are just examples for the diverse nature of La Gomera. Another special feature of the island, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by the UNESCO, is the ‘silbo’, which is a certain way of communication unique to the island, involving the whistling of syllables. The inhabitants used to communicate like this within gorges, allowing the sound to travel long distances.
