Bom Jesus do Monte
This is one of the most visited attractions in Braga. It is a pilgrimage site and every year, many people come here to pay respects. It sits on a hill over the city, and has a steep stair-case, adorned with Baroque sculpture. There are also fountains, based on the five senses. The view is really what many tourists come to see, however.
2. Praça da República
This square has some beautiful architecture, as well as quaint streets that lead off it. This is one of the main attractions in Braga, as it contains many sights to see in itself. It has cafes and restaurants, offering traditional Portuguese fare and is especially busy at night.
3. Raio Palace
This stately home is in the city centre and has the typical blue tiles, so reminiscent of Portugal. This facade makes the palace one of the most beautiful attractions in Braga. The palace also has a small medical museum, but is best viewed from the outside.
4. Chapel of Sao Frutuoso
This church is a pre-Roman chapel, which retains the same structure since it was built. It dates from the 7th century and is one of the oldest attractions in Braga. It is worth a visit for the history of the building alone, as well as it´s quaint façade.
5. Biscainhos Museum
This is a trip back in time to see how the rich of Portugal lived. The interior has been restored, and you can see original fixtures. The real beauty of the museum is the gardens at the back. They are truly extravagant and is one of the most spectacular attractions in Braga.
6. Braga Cathedral
This cathedral is one of the best architectural attractions in Braga. It also details the history of the city, featuring Renaissance, Gothic and Baroque elements. The inside is equally spectacular, with two Baroque organs commanding space in the interior.
7. Antigo Paço Episcopal and Santa Barbara Jardim
This building is one of the most important religious attractions in Braga. The real joy is the landscaped garden of Santa Barbara. Although the building is not open to the public, it´s architecture is a real draw. As is walking through the gardens, and relaxing in the shade under the many trees that line the paths.
8. Museu Pio XII
Visiting the museum is one of the most fascinating things to do in León. They have several exhibits which tell the story of Braga´s past. There are also art exhibitions from renowned Portuguese painters. You can also visit the medieval tower, which has a spectacular view over the city.
9.Enjoy traditional coffee
Whilst not being one of the typical attractions in Braga, having a coffee and people watching in the old town is essential. You can also enjoy some of Portugal´s delicious sweet treats. The best place to do this is in one of the main squares. However, you may also find excellent coffee in a smaller cafeteria off the main drag.
10. Tibaes Monastery
This monastery is outside of the city, but is one of the attractions in Braga worth visiting. There are beautiful gardens, which include a tree-lined lake. The real sight is that of the church, which is covered in gold. The monastery is perfect for those who want to venture further afield.
