Tenerife is known as the island of eternal spring. No matter your age, it is entirely possible to have an adventure in Tenerife. Join us as we take you through the best of what the island has to offer.
An adventure in Tenerife for children
Tenerife is a paradise for families with children. Much like the mainland of Spain, it has it´s fair share of water-parks and high octane attractions. If you are travelling with Tenerife with kids, there are no shortage adventures to be had.
The first stop should be Siam Park. This is a Thai-themed water-park with plenty of rides and no shortage of attractions for little and big kids alike. This park features gentler rides alongside the typical white-knuckle slides. Perfect for an adventure in Tenerife en famille.
Siam Park also has a sister, the famous Loro Parque. This is Tenerife´s oldest theme park and has the world´s largest collection of parrots. They have several performances during the day with the animals, and the park is set up to resemble Jurassic Park. For adventure in Tenerife, look no further than the two great parks of the island.
If all this wildlife has left you wanting more, it is highly recommended to go whale or dolphin watching from Los Cristianos or Los Gigantes. Boats sail regularly and is a fantastic opportunity for all to have an adventure in Tenerife.
Of course, let´s not forget the multitude of beaches in Tenerife. A recommendation is Playa del Duque. Slightly smaller than the others, it looks more Caribbean than Canarian. It´s possible to swim, dive or simply sunbathe there, which makes it perfect for all the family.
Adventure in Tenerife for adults
Tenerife also has plenty to do for big kids. Many of these activities are easily adaptable to children or older travellers.
To learn more about the history of the island, make a trip to see the volcanic tube of Cueva del Viento. It is the largest in Europe and continues for miles, making up a labyrinth of tunnels. You can wander freely or join a tour, which will have commentaries in many languages.
After this adventure in Tenerife, you may want to return to reality. The towns and villages of Tenerife have plenty of bars and restaurants, for which you can sit back and relax. Some of the larger towns are full to the brim with tourists, so a good recommendation is to visit La Laguna. This is a UNESCO Heritage site and has plenty of buildings from the 16th century to photograph. It is also full of bars, restaurants and cafes where you can try the local cuisine.
Another UNESCO Heritage site, the most famous area of the island and the perfect place to have an adventure in Tenerfie is Teide National Park. Mount Teide is Spain´s highest mountain and visitors can go up in a cable car to view Tenerife from the sky. If that is too daring, it is possible to drive around the landscape. It is recommended to do this in a tour group, as they will feature key sights and an interesting commentary. Visiting Teide is essential for any adventure in Tenerife and will be mesmerising for all ages.
If you fancy something a little more strenuous, Tenerife is well-known for it´s hiking trails. The most famous is Masca, where you can find a beautiful village, hiking back down to the beach and Playa de los Gigantes.
